Adachi museum is a must see while you are placed in Iwakuni. Their Japanese Garden was awarded No.1 in the world for the past 17 consecutive years. The 400-acre garden is seen as a raw artwork, the flawless garden is well maintained 24/7 by their gardeners. We can see 6 different types of Japanese garden here, each and one of them are breath taking. This garden was inspired from paintings made by one of the greatest Japanese artist Yokoyama Taikan. Adachi Zenko the founder of this museum, was a businessman born in the area where the museum is built, he had a great passion for Taikan’s artwork. The museum has over 1,500 Japanese art, starting with the largest collection of Yokoyama Taikan, it attracts over 500,000 tourists from all over the world each year. Additionally, Adachi museum has a collection of potteries made by Kitaoji Rosanjin, who was an epicure and a noble artist in the early 1900’s. The museum also has its’ own awards for young artists in Japan Visual Arts Academy and buys up the awarded work to support them and include the art in their gallery. All of the Adachi Museum Award arts can be seen at the end of the gallery. Like every museum, Adachi Museum annexes a Café. This one is quite special, since you can see the breath-taking gardens, we recommend you sit and have a little snack before going home. It’s about 3 hours drive from Iwakuni, a day trip is possible but we recommend you to spend a night and explore the beautiful Shimane Prefecture.
