One of Iwakuni’s most frequented ramen shops.

Located across the street from the Hirata Chuo Food, Kobutaya is one of Iwakuni’s most frequented ramen shops. Though Kobutaya specializes in various styles of Tonkotsu (Pork-based) and Shoyu (Soy Sauce-based) broths, there are a number of various other ramen flavors such as Miso and the house-favorite Spicy Miso to choose from. When you walk in, you’ll be greeted by the eccentric shop owner who loves to practice his English with his customers. There is an English menu from which you can order either just a bowl of ramen, or a set that can include either fried rice, gyoza, or both! You can also order a number of different additional toppings such as green onions, sprouts, or a hard-boiled egg.

The shop seats roughly 10 or 11 customers at a time so the shop is set up as a just a continuous countertop facing the chef. He prepares the food in front of you and converses with his customers joyfully while they await their meal. You can park at the local Chuo Food across the street for free and walk to the shop.
