Off Base Fishing

License-free fishing is a popular activity off-base.

A guide to fishing in the town and surrounding areas of Iwakuni

Fishing off base is a fun activity that does not require a license like fishing typically does stateside. There are various spots along the seaside both just North and mainly South/SouthWest of base that are exceptional for fishing. The website below exhibits a map with various blue points along the seaside that when clicked on, they link to a more detailed map that shows the exact spots for each type of fish likely to be caught at that location. These maps are very handy and are regularly updated by the fishing gurus in the area.

In addition, there are a few major fishing shops in the area that offer both all the fishing equipment you need as well as guides as to the local fishing spots and what sorts of fishing lures and bait you need for each type of fish. One major fishing shop is called ‘Point’ and has a large image of a Carp with heart eyes on the front of the store – it is located just North of the base past the JR Iwakuni train station. The second shop is called Kameya and it is located south towards the Yuu area. The address and hours for both shops will be listed below.
